who doesn't love a long holiday weekend? it's blazing hot here in austin - temps are already in the upper 90s and hitting 100 or more some days - but it feels like summer and summer means bbq and long lazy days and hanging out with family and friends and swimming. or at least, that's what it means to me.
my parents and justin's mom and her friend debbie came into town this weekend to celebrate memorial day. it was really fun to hang with all the fam, and we made the most of it, but also did some relaxing as well. friday night, marilyn and debbie arrived and we met them at trudy's for dinner. emme fell asleep in the car on the way over, since it was close to her bedtime, and she stayed down the whole meal. she woke up briefly to nurse before i put her down, but didn't fight it at all - whew! saturday, my parents arrived and we all went to zax for some lunch/brunch. there, emme tried her first dill pickle and it was a big success. i'm telling you, this kid has yet to meet a food she won't eat. hummus is also a new favorite, and she even sucked on a lemon and barely flinched. hilarious. saturday afternoon we all separated to do some shopping and running around. we met back up at the house around 6 and justin made delicious shrimp tacos and we all just visited and hung out.
sunday we went to look at a house jb and i were thinking about (more about that whole situation later), then mom and emme and i went shopping while everyone else got the house ready for the afternoon barbecue. justin and mike smoked like 40 pounds of meat and we had a huge spread of food. the byrnes, the laings, and chip all came over and we hung out and had a lovely time. emme also tried barbecue chicken and, shockingly, it was another hit. ha. i can't get over what a voracious eater this little bunny is.
monday morning came too fast and it was time for everyone to hit the road. we woke up early and went to my parents' hotel so emme kay could do some swimming in the indoor pool. that child is a little fish - she kicks her legs and has a non-stop grin when she's in the water. i think we will be investing in a baby pool this year for sure. we had breakfast there and said bye to my family, then met marilyn and debbie back at our house to say our goodbyes to them. it was a great weekend with everyone and we can't wait for the next family extravaganza!
i'm posting some pics from marilyn's camera, but will add some from my dad's and ours as soon as i upload them to this computer....
