as i think i've mentioned, emme kay is in love with food. she's also more than a wee bit independent, and i am (mostly) a believer in baby-led weaning, so....this leads to lots of messes. this child is hilarious in her high chair. first, she tries to climb out of it (thank goodness for those straps, eh?) if she isn't immediately preoccupied with something to eat. if we offer her something that involves a spoon, she insists on helping to feed herself with the spoon, but she doesn't like to open her mouth wide and prefers to slide the spoon between her lips, leading to globs of pureed whatever all over her body. if i give her cut up pieces of fruit or something to feed herself, she attacks it like a wild animal (as is evidenced by the poor strawberry below).
so the routine goes: strip baby down to just a diaper. place food items on high chair. allow baby to launch into full wildebeest mode. laugh hysterically while offering assistance and encouragement. let dogs in to scavenge food on floor. hose down high chair (love that ikea high chair). place filthy happy baby in bathtub immediately. alternatively (after breakfast), bring slightly less filthy baby to changing table and wipe her down with warm wet washcloths.
